We encourage families to fly or drive to us for pickup to meet us and your puppy for an in-person purchase experience. We know traveling is time consuming and expensive... and getting a new puppy is a very meaningful & important event. So make the most of it!
Plan a mini vacation for your whole family or a romantic getaway for you and your partner.
Puppies do very well traveling in-cabin on the flight home. They likely will sleep the whole way! We recommend scheduling your Take Home appointment with us right before heading to the airport, rather than the day before and trying to manage a new puppy in a hotel or driving around town together. We will have your puppy fed, watered, and pottied for you at the appropriate times to ensure the easiest travel experience for you both. You will need an airline approved soft carrier. We recommend the Sherpa brand size medium. Puppies up to 16lbs are allowed to travel in-cabin. DOs: Give a small snack and small drink of water during a layover, bring chews (that don't smell), a toy, pee pads, a towel, and a small dish for food & water, potty break in the single stall family restroom only! DONTs: Give excess food/water/treats, use any dog designated potty area (your puppy isn't fully vaccinated!)
Driving home with your new puppy isn't as daunting as it sounds! Puppies tend to travel very well on long rides and end up sleeping the majority of the trip. We routinely skip breakfast on scheduled Meet & Greet/Go Home days to help your puppy's tummy as they experience traveling in a vehicle for the first time. A great way to help your puppy feel calm comfortable and avoid nausea/carsickness is to allow your puppy to travel on someone lap rather than in a crate. Bring at least 1 person along to your appointment to help. Any drive less than 3 hours long, we recommend not stopping for any potty breaks. Over 3 hours would require a couple breaks for your puppy. Its important to choose your location carefully and be mindful that your puppy is not fully vaccinated yet. Offer your puppy a small amount of food and water along the way. Items to bring: pee pads, towels, leash & collar or harness, bowl, carrier or crate just in case.
